The beautiful thing about growing food is SHARING food, and our Community Fruit Tree project is designed to provide fresh fruit, free for the picking, for the whole community! We’re on a mission to wake people up to the idea that food doesn’t have to come from the store. It can be growing all around us! We’ll plant fruit trees in places where the public has access to them such as residential front yards, street medians, community centers, schools, and churches.
Our partner, Rob Greenfield, is piloting this project in Orlando, FL, where he will oversee the planting of 100 community fruit trees. Hundreds of people will get to pick these fruits for years to come. And we want to inspire people to plant more fruit trees in their own front yard to eat and share with their neighborhood. Fruit trees can produce free food to help with food security for decades and require minimal input at the start, and minimal maintenance in the long run.
