My name is Niki and I am a 13 month Program Director for Manna Project International. I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Health Promotion and a specialization in Community Health & Wellness. Towards the end of my time at the University of Texas, I realized that I wanted to do something different. I didn’t want to start a “regular” job or work on my post-graduate degree just yet. I wanted to live in another country, experience another culture, and work in community development. When I found out about Manna Project International (MPI), I knew that’s what I wanted to do. For the past 6 months, I have lived and worked in Nicaragua, where I have helped run a creative art class for children, an English class, a Child Sponsorship and Nutrition program, and a clinic. I feel so incredibly fortunate to be able to have this experience, which has given me so many moments that I will forever hold close to my heart. The community that I work with has been more welcoming and helpful than I could have ever hoped for. I have traveled to places and have done things that I would have never thought that I would do.
The Live Like Ally Foundation has helped me continue this experience, for which I will always be grateful. I feel so lucky to be a part of the LLA family and continue to spread Ally’s love and spirit here in Nicaragua and wherever else life takes me. I truly believe that being able to experience the world from a different perspective is invaluable and LLA allows young people from all over to do this. There is no better way to honor Ally than to help others to do the things she was so passionate about and live the way she lived! I can’t wait to honor her by carrying on her extraordinary passion, love, joy, compassion, and sense of adventure. I am so excited to be one of Ally’s Allies!
